Leupold Illuminated FireDot SPR

Drawn to scale from Leupold’s own specification sheet, and checked mark by mark by a person. This is the same geometry Harson Ballistics draws your holdover on.

Leupold Illuminated FireDot SPR — second focal plane, MRAD subtensions

Framed to about 12 MRAD — the part of the reticle you aim with. This reticle carries marks out to 20 MRAD; the rest sits beyond the edge of this drawing.

Drawn from Leupold & Stevens, Inc.’s published specification.

Subtensions

Official 2021 Reticles PDF page 29. SFP, true at highest available magnification. Published: 10.00 MIL circle diameter; 2.50 MIL hash spacing on the horizontal stadia; fine-line weight 0.28 MIL; heavy-line weight 0.75 MIL; additional vertical hash lengths labeled 0.50 MIL and 0.75 MIL. Center FireDot drawn, diameter not labeled — omitted. Inner-end of thick posts is drawn just outside the circle but not given a numeric inset; posts recorded from ±5 as a conservative match to the 10 MIL circle radius, flagged here as inferred from the circle rather than a printed post-inset number. Illumination: official 2021 Reticles PDF — “Fiber-optic powered center red-dot”; 2026 catalog — “NOTE: All Firedot reticles are illuminated” and “daylight-visible red illuminated FireDot in the center”. Only the center FireDot glows. Diameter is drawn but not numbered, so no invented d on the center dot.

How this one was checked

Verified 11 Sep 2026 against 2021 Leupold Reticles PDF page 29, read from the page's vector strokes (pymupdf). NOTE the palette differs from pages 27/43: reticle ink here is (0.136,0.119,0.128) and the callout leaders are GREY (0.399,0.403,0.402), not gold - the colour was identified per page with tools/pdf_reticle_probe.py before measuring. Scale 5.976 px/MIL. Anchored on the 2.50MIL mark pitch (14.94px, sd 0.02 over 20 intervals) and confirmed by four independent features landing on clean values: post inner ends 14.99 and 15.01, a construction circle at radius 15.007, the field-of-view circle at radius 22.09 (page 43's posts run to the same 22.0), and the long mark at 0.746 against its printed 0.75MIL. Fine line 0.271 [0.28], heavy line 0.771 [0.75]. REBUILT - the record was substantially wrong in three ways. (1) The crosshair and posts were at the wrong radius: the record ran the fine lines to +/-5 MIL and started the heavy posts there, when the sheet runs the fine lines to +/-15 MIL and starts the posts at 15. The drawn reticle was three times too small. (2) The marks at y=-0.50 and y=-0.75 were not positions. 0.50MIL and 0.75MIL are the two mark LENGTHS, and the record's own note said so ('additional vertical hash lengths labeled 0.50 MIL and 0.75 MIL') while placing them as coordinates. Both removed. (3) Twelve marks were missing. The sheet carries marks on BOTH axes at 2.5, 7.5, 10 and 12.5 MIL either side of centre; the record had four, on the windage axis only. There is deliberately NO mark at 5 MIL: that is exactly where the 10 MIL circle crosses each axis, and the circle serves as the mark. Confirmed by measurement - no stroke of any kind sits at +/-5 on either axis. Mark lengths are taken from the printed callouts, 0.50 and 0.75MIL. The 0.75 marks measure 0.746-0.753, effectively exact; the 0.50 marks measure 0.539-0.565, about 10 percent over their callout. The published figure is used. CIRCLE: 10.00MIL as published, confirmed. A first pass read the circle as 9.70 MIL and nearly recorded a 3 percent error in Leupold's drawing; that was wrong. The vector curve endpoints sit at the INNER edge of a stroked ring (radius 4.850 MIL), not its centreline. Scanned radially at 45/135/225/315 degrees on a 600dpi render, the ring runs from 4.859 to 5.166 MIL, so its centreline radius is 5.013 and its diameter 10.025 against the printed 10.00. The sheet is internally consistent and the scale is right. Circle stroke measures 0.303 MIL and is recorded as the published 0.28 fine line; without an explicit weight the renderer would draw it at its 0.03 hairline default. Lesson: on a filled outline path, a ring's curve points are an edge, not a centreline - measure across it. FIREDOT DIAMETER - question closed 12 Sep 2026, deliberately NOT modelled. The red dot is drawn to a different size on all three Mark 3HD pages: 0.142 MIL (p27 TMR), 0.809 (p28 BDC), 1.045 (p29 SPR). Three drawings of the same dot disagreeing by 7x cannot all be to scale, so none of them is a measurement of the dot. Every diameter Leupold actually PUBLISHES in this catalogue is far smaller - 0.05MIL and 0.03MIL on page 19, 0.3MOA (0.087MIL) on page 16 - and all three drawn dots exceed the largest of them. The dot is therefore drawn oversized so it reads at print size, an illustration convention. The record claims no diameter and the renderer's 0.1 MIL default stands, which is nearer Leupold's published 0.03-0.087 band than any of the three measurements. Do not 'correct' this to a measured value.
