Leupold Illuminated FFP PR1-MOA

Drawn to scale from Leupold’s own specification sheet, and checked mark by mark by a person. This is the same geometry Harson Ballistics draws your holdover on.

Leupold Illuminated FFP PR1-MOA — first focal plane, MOA subtensions, 3.6–25×

Framed to about 40 MOA — the part of the reticle you aim with. This reticle carries marks out to 106.7 MOA; the rest sits beyond the edge of this drawing.

Drawn from Leupold & Stevens, Inc.’s published specification.

In the first focal plane the subtensions hold true at every magnification, so a hold is a hold wherever the zoom ring sits.

Subtensions

Official Leupold 2021 Reticles PDF, page 16 (ILLUMINATED FFP PR1-MOA, MARK 5HD). Published on that page: 0.3 MOA fine lines, 0.5 MOA medium lines, 1.0 MOA heavy lines and a 0.3 MOA centre dot. Mark lengths printed alongside the drawing: 1.0 / 1.5 / 2.0 / 2.5 / 4.0 / 5.0 / 6.0 / 10.0 MOA. FFP, so the subtensions hold at every magnification. The illuminated variant is NOT the non-illuminated PR1-MOA with a lamp added: every mark inside 20 MOA is half a MOA longer and the fine line and dot are twice the subtension (0.3 against 0.15 and 0.2). The outer ladder is identical.

How this one was checked

Verified 14 Sep 2026 against page 16 of Leupold's 2021 reticle manual (ILLUMINATED FFP PR1-MOA, MARK 5HD) by reading the PDF's vector shapes with pymupdf. Every mark is a filled rectangle, so each length is the rectangle's true extent rather than a stroke width. Scale and origin come from the reduced FULL RETICLE view: its 1 MOA mark pitch fits 1.388 pt/MOA about (253.99, 288.38), and the windage then spans exactly 200.0 MOA across 60 marks, which is the documented 30 per arm. All 138 marks land within 0.021 MOA of an integer on all four arms - the same check that settled the non-illuminated sheet. It also kills the factor-of-two reading this catalogue invites: at half the scale the windage would reach 50 MOA a side and the ladder would stop at 50, not the 100 the sheet numbers. LADDER: windage and elevation ABOVE centre share one ladder - 1 MOA marks 1.0 long, 1.5 on the multiples of 5, 2.0 on the multiples of 10, out to 19; then 5 MOA steps at 2.0 to 35; then 10 MOA steps at 3.0 to 100. Elevation BELOW centre is the longer ladder - 1.5 on the whole MOA, 2.0 on the multiples of 5, 2.5 on the multiples of 10, holding the 1 MOA pitch to 39; then 5 MOA steps at 4.0 to 55; then 10 MOA steps at 6.0 to 100. Same shape as the non-illuminated PR1-MOA with every inner mark half a MOA longer, and identical outer sections. STADIA: fine from centre to 20 (to 40 below centre), medium 20 to 40 (40 to 60 below), heavy on to the field-of-view boundary at 106.7. All four stadia stop 0.5 MOA short of centre. There is no separate thicker post; the heavy line simply runs out. LINE WEIGHTS come from the page's callouts, not the drawing. Measured, medium and heavy are exactly 0.500 and 1.000 as published, but the fine line draws 0.200 against a published 0.3 and the centre feature the same. The identical gap exists on the verified non-illuminated sheet - published 0.15, drawn 0.112 - so on both sheets the finest element is drawn thinner than its subtension and the published figure is the one to trust. Marks carry one weight, as on the sibling; the sheet draws the 40-100 marks twice as thick as the inner ones, which changes no hold. ILLUMINATION: the red overlay covers x -40 to +40 and y -60 to +40, which is exactly everything inside the heavy line - the fine and medium stadia, every mark out to 40, and the centre dot. The heavy outer arms stay black. NUMERALS could not be measured: they are drawn as vector paths on this sheet and on the non-illuminated one, so neither yields them as text. The numeral scheme is taken from the verified sibling, whose ladder positions are identical. That is cosmetic and is the only part of this record not read off the sheet.
