Vortex XLR-2 MRAD

Drawn to scale from Vortex’s own specification sheet, and checked mark by mark by a person. This is the same geometry Harson Ballistics draws your holdover on.

Vortex XLR-2 MRAD — first focal plane, MRAD subtensions

Framed to about 12 MRAD — the part of the reticle you aim with. This reticle carries marks out to 16 MRAD; the rest sits beyond the edge of this drawing.

Drawn from Vortex Optics’s published specification.

In the first focal plane the subtensions hold true at every magnification, so a hold is a hold wherever the zoom ring sits.

Subtensions

FFP; the sheet: 'subtensions measured in MRAD and remain constant at all magnifications'. The centre scales are illuminated (drawn red). Published: red line .04; top line .03; centre dot .04; whole-mil hashes .4, half-mil .2; outer tenth ticks .15; red marks .2 apart, outer marks .1 apart; bottom post from 11; posts .5 thick with a mark at 15; grid dots .06 and .09. Drawn, not published (the sheet is to scale; read exactly from the vectors): red (illuminated) centre scales to 4 mil left, right and up and to 10 down, open 0.1 at the dot; vertical red scale centred .4 at whole mils and .2 at half mils; the horizontal red scale differs, as on the VMR-4: whole-mil hashes stand 0.25 above with a detached heavier (.05) stub below (0.05-0.25), half mils only that stub (to 0.15), 0.2-mil ticks above only (to 0.1). Black outer scales from 4.1 to 10 left and right (to 6 up): centred .4 at whole mils, .25 at half and .15 at tenths, line .03; plain line from 6.1 up; side posts start at 10.1, the bottom post at 11; each post carries a 1.0-long tick at 15. Holdover grid as the VMR-4: dot rows every mil from 1 to 10, dots every 0.2 mil, rows +/-2 widening to +/-6. Numerals 2-10 on the horizontal arms, 2 / 4 / 6 up, 1-10 at both ends of every grid row. The top line is drawn 0.04 on the sheet; the record carries the published .03. Posts drawn to 16 mil (the sheet's frame is 15.3).

How this one was checked

Verified 8 Oct 2026 against specs/vortex/VTX_RZR-42202_XLR-2_MRAD_RS_I_RI_ST.pdf page 1. Scale 11.781 pt/mil fitted to the hash pitch, centre (198.001, 221.102) = the red centre dot; every published callout then lands except one: the top line above 6.1, published .03, is drawn 0.04 - recorded .03 (all listed in tools/build_vortex_ffp_grids.py). Geometry converted exactly from the vector outlines - every rectilinear ink subpath cut into rectangles from its own vertex coordinates, one element each - so rows, widths, spacing, which side of the line each tick sits, gaps and extents are the drawing's own. Grid dots taken only on the grid; numerals placed from glyph outlines, text from the value of the mark they label.
