Vortex VMR-5 MOA

Drawn to scale from Vortex’s own specification sheet, and checked mark by mark by a person. This is the same geometry Harson Ballistics draws your holdover on.

In the first focal plane the subtensions hold true at every magnification, so a hold is a hold wherever the zoom ring sits.

Subtensions

FFP; the sheet: 'subtensions measured in MOA and remain constant at all magnifications'. The centre scales are illuminated (drawn red). Published: line .1; centre dot .1; red 4-MOA hashes 1.25, 1-MOA hashes .5; at the top of the upper scale a 2-MOA hash .75 and half-MOA ticks reaching .25 to one side; marks 1 MOA apart on the red scale, .5 apart on the black; side lines .2 thick; bottom line from 38, .2 thick. Drawn, not published (the sheet is to scale; read exactly from the vectors): red (illuminated) scales to 16 MOA left and right, to 8 up and to 36 down, open 0.5 at the centre dot: centred hashes 1.25 every 4 MOA and .5 at every other MOA; above 4 MOA the upper scale has half-MOA ticks on the left only, a .75 hash at 6 and a 1.5 hash at 8, where it STOPS - nothing is drawn above 8 MOA. Black outer scales from 16.5 to 20 left and right; the .2 side lines start at 20 and the bottom line at 38. Numerals 4-20 on the horizontal arms and 4-36 beside the lower scale. Lines drawn to 43 MOA (the sheet's frame is 39.7). The centre dot is drawn 0.19; the record carries the published .1.

How this one was checked

Verified 8 Oct 2026 against specs/vortex/VTX_RZR-63603_VMR-5_MOA_6-36x56_RS_I_RI_ST.pdf page 1. Scale 4.5312 pt/MOA fitted to the hash pitch, centre (198.0, 221.102) = the red centre dot; every published callout then lands except one: the centre dot, published .1, is drawn 0.19 - recorded .1 (all listed in tools/build_vortex_ffp_grids.py). Geometry converted exactly from the vector outlines - every rectilinear ink subpath cut into rectangles from its own vertex coordinates, one element each - so rows, widths, spacing, which side of the line each tick sits, gaps and extents are the drawing's own. Grid dots taken only on the grid; numerals placed from glyph outlines, text from the value of the mark they label.
