Vortex VMR-4 MOA

Drawn to scale from Vortex’s own specification sheet, and checked mark by mark by a person. This is the same geometry Harson Ballistics draws your holdover on.

In the first focal plane the subtensions hold true at every magnification, so a hold is a hold wherever the zoom ring sits.

Subtensions

Official VMR-4 MOA manual, page 2 Subtension Chart. FFP - the chart states MOA values are correct on all magnifications. Published: heavy bars 1.5 MOA thick starting at +/-32.5 windage and -38 elevation; centre dot 0.15; fine crosshair 0.15 thick; elevation marks 0.5 at each MOA, 0.75 at each 2 MOA and 2.0 at each 4 MOA; outer 0.5 MOA scales with 0.5 marks, 0.75 at 18 and 22 and 1.0 at 20 and 24; grid dots 0.2, and 0.3 on every 4 MOA column; a 0.1 thick plain stadium above 25 MOA. The reticle has THREE windage scales, not one: the fine one to +/-16, a detached 0.5 MOA scale from 16.5 to 24, and then the heavy bar from 32.5. The chart draws the fine crosshair red and the grid and outer scales black, but nothing in the manual calls the reticle illuminated, so no element is marked as such.

How this one was checked

Built 15 Sep 2026 from the VMR-4 MOA reticle manual (VTX_M-00358), page 2 Subtension Chart, read as VECTOR artwork: 2.146 pt/MOA fitted to the aiming grid's 1 MOA column pitch, centre taken from the red centre dot. Vortex manuals are normally NOT safe to measure - the EBR-4 manual says its drawing is for representation only - so the scale was proved first, and ELEVEN published callouts land on it: 32.5 and 38 for where the heavy bars start, 1.5 for their thickness, .15 for the centre dot and the fine line weight, .1 for the stadium above 25 MOA, .5/.75/2 for the three elevation mark widths, 1 and .5 for the outer scales' marks, and 0.2/0.3 for the two grid dot diameters. MEASURED: windage marks every 1 MOA to +/-16, the odd ones reaching 0.3 above the line and the even ones 0.6, with a second set hanging BELOW at every even MOA - 0.75 deep on each 4 MOA and 0.45 between - drawn detached from the line, which is how the sheet draws them and not a rounding artefact. Elevation marks every 1 MOA from +16 to -36. Aiming grid 286 dots on 9 rows at 4 MOA spacing, +/-8 at the first row widening to +/-24 at 32 and 36, with no dot on the centre column or at +/-1. Heavy bars run from the published 32.5 and 38 out to the sheet's sight-picture rim at 45.1 MOA.
