Vortex VMR-2 MOA

Drawn to scale from Vortex’s own specification sheet, and checked mark by mark by a person. This is the same geometry Harson Ballistics draws your holdover on.

Subtensions

Official VMR-2 MOA manual, page 3 subtension diagram, which is labelled "Reticle image shown for representation only". Published: centre dot 0.5; crosshair 0.5 thick with the stadium above centre 0.6 (top line only); heavy bars 1.75 thick from +/-35 windage and -45 elevation; marks 1.5 and 3.0 long. Pages 5 and 6 state the marks on both crosshairs are graduated in 4 MOA increments. Windage marks run to 16 MOA and elevation to 24, and the marks ALTERNATE - 1.5 long at 4, 12 and 20, 3.0 at 8, 16 and 24 - which is the whole point of the pattern and what makes an 8 MOA hold findable without counting. Nothing above centre but the plain 0.6 stadium: no marks, no bar. SFP - the manual states the subtensions are only accurate at the highest magnification, 6x on this scope.

How this one was checked

Built 15 Sep 2026 from the VMR-2 MOA manual (VTX_M-00181-0), page 3. This manual is the one the project's standing rule about Vortex was written for: it says its reticle image is for representation only, the same disclaimer that stopped the EBR-4 pass. So the scale was NOT fitted to the drawing - it was fitted to the 4 MOA graduation the manual states in prose on pages 5 and 6, and the drawing was then used only to CHECK it (2.175 drawing units per MOA). Seven published callouts pass: the bars start at 35.0 and 45.0 and are 1.750 thick, the crosshair is 0.500 and the stadium above centre 0.600, and the two mark lengths come out 1.50 and 3.00. The ONE figure that fails is the centre dot, drawn 0.77 against a published 0.5 - oversized to read at print size, exactly as Leupold draws its FireDot - and the published figure is what the record carries. MEASURED FROM THE STRUCTURE: four windage marks a side at 4, 8, 12 and 16, alternating 1.5 and 3.0 long, then a plain line out to the bar at 35; six elevation marks at 4 through 24, alternating the same way; nothing above centre. WHAT WAS WRONG: the old record drew every windage mark 3.0 long when half of them are 1.5, drew every elevation mark 6.0 wide when they are 1.5 and 3.0 (so the 4 MOA hold was FOUR times too wide), stopped the windage marks at 12 instead of 16, and invented a heavy bar above centre where the reticle has a plain stadium.
