Vortex Dead-Hold BDC (illuminated) — second focal plane, MOA subtensions
Official per-scope sheets (identical drawing and numbers): VTX_VPR-21001_DEAD-HOLD-BDC_MOA_RS_I_RI_ST.pdf (Viper HD 2-10x42); VTX_VPR-31501_DEAD-HOLD-BDC_MOA_RS_I_RI_ST.pdf (Viper HD 3-15x44). Published, MOA at the highest magnification: illuminated centre dot diameter .13, windage hashes 2 MOA apart to 6, holdover hashes 1.5 / 4.5 / 7.5, side posts start at 8, bottom post at 11, hash length 1, line .3, post .8. Unlike the other Dead-Hold sheets there is NO top post - the fine vertical line runs to the field edge. Drawn values, not published: holdover hashes as long as the windage hashes, hashes as thick as the line, and a post shoulder 0.45 long (shallower than 45 degrees on this sheet). Posts drawn to 40 MOA. The illuminated dot sits inside the line crossing; it shows only when lit. Sheet notes: 'Subtensions measured in MOA and correspond to the highest magnification. Reticle image shown for representation only. Reticle image varies between riflescope models depending on magnification and reticle plane.'
How this one was checked
Verified 8 Oct 2026 against specs/vortex/VTX_VPR-21001_DEAD-HOLD-BDC_MOA_RS_I_RI_ST.pdf (Viper HD 2-10x42); VTX_VPR-31501_DEAD-HOLD-BDC_MOA_RS_I_RI_ST.pdf (Viper HD 3-15x44), page 1 (the two sheets are the same drawing). Scale 14.98 pt/MOA from the windage hash centres at 2 / 4 / 6. Then: hash 0.996 (published 1), line 0.296 (.3), post 0.798 (.8), side posts 8.009, bottom post 11.005, holdover hashes 1.50 / 4.50 / 7.50 - seven callouts land. The EIGHTH does not: the red dot is drawn 0.284 across against a published .13, oversized to read at print size exactly as the VMR-2's centre dot is; the published .13 is recorded (the rule settled on the VMR-2). Post shoulders from the ON-curve vertices: 0.45 run for 0.25 rise on all three posts. No top post, confirmed in the vectors (the vertical line meets the ring at 12.0 MOA at line width).
Use it on your own rifle
Harson Ballistics draws this reticle at your magnification with your holdover marked on it,
from your rifle, load and conditions. Works with no signal and no account.
Subtensions are published by the manufacturer and reproduced here for reference.
