Schmidt & Bender P3L

Drawn to scale from Schmidt & Bender’s own specification sheet, and checked mark by mark by a person. This is the same geometry Harson Ballistics draws your holdover on.

Schmidt & Bender P3L — first focal plane, MRAD subtensions

Framed to about 12 MRAD — the part of the reticle you aim with. This reticle carries marks out to 60 MRAD; the rest sits beyond the edge of this drawing.

Drawn from Schmidt & Bender GmbH & Co. KG’s published specification.

In the first focal plane the subtensions hold true at every magnification, so a hold is a hold wherever the zoom ring sits.

Subtensions

First focal plane, mrad: four heavy posts, an illuminated red cross at the centre, clear glass, then a thin line with a dot every 0.998 mrad (four per arm) out to the posts. From S&B's dimensioned reticle data sheet for this scope. A 9.982 between the post tips (cm row 99.82), B 0.998 dot spacing, C 0.599 post, D 0.2 dot, E 0.068 line. This sheet's coverages are not round numbers; they are recorded as printed. The second sheet is titled '3-12x50 PMII / 3-12x42 Klassik' and is identical to the first, drawing and table. The red cross length is not lettered and is measured from the vector drawing; the black line starts at the first dot. The field at lowest magnification is 61.38 mrad; the posts are drawn to 60 here (app plausibility limits).

How this one was checked

Verified 9 Oct 2026 against Schmidt-Bender-Datasheet-P3L-FFP-3-12x50-PMII and -3-12x50-PMII_3-12x42 Klassik.pdf (P3L.zip), pages 2 and 3. Vector drawing, measured on FILL geometry only (the 0.285 pt outline stroke and dimension lines dropped). Page 2 scale from A, the post-tip opening (25.364 pt/mrad), centre from the four post tips (the left/right and top/bottom openings agree). Measured: posts 0.600, line 0.068, red cross 1.428 across x 0.068 (not lettered; recorded 0.714 each side). The record was rasterised the way the app draws it and XOR-compared with page 2's fill geometry at 600 dpi (tools/pdf_sheet_compare.py, 2 px tolerance): nothing disagrees except the sheet's own dimension arrowheads. Page 3 lowest-magnification view (drawn as outlines; scale from the post tips, 2.301 pt/mrad) gives the field edge the posts run to. Dots on all four arms at every mrad 1-4; no numerals. The two sheets in P3L.zip (PMII, and PMII / 3-12x42 Klassik) give identical measurements.
